Bhatinda, October 11: Khalsa Warriors continued their march in the Wave World Kabaddi League with a 12th in 14 matches as they beat back a late challenge from Vancouver Lions 60-51 in the second match of Saturday in Bathinda.

Khalsa Warriors, who suffered a rare, in fact their only loss in Mohali last week, won their second match in as many days as they took their points tally to 25 with 12 wins, one tie and one loss. Vancouver Lions, meanwhile, are in the lower half of the table with 10 points from 14 matches.

Khalsa Warriors, who have been way ahead of the pack right from the start, are now 11 points clear of second place United Singhs and California Eagles, who have 14 points each.

Warriors’ star raider Manjot Singh Gill (19 raids) helped his team beat Lions by a convincing margin of nine points in the 50th match of the Wave WKL.

Vancouver Lions won the toss and raider Gagandeep Sabrawa went for the first raid but lost the point to Khalsa Warriors’ star stopper Satnam Singh Sattu and that set the tone for the match. Khalsa’s Satnam (2 stops) along with Karamjeet Lasara (1), Satnam Chahal (1) and Lakhvinder Singh (1) ensured their defence was tight. To add to their might, Raiders Yuvraj Singh and Manjot Singh displayed some powerful raids and helped Khalsa Warriors take a 15-12 lead. For Vancouver Lions, Amanvir earned three valuable points through stops.

Into the second Quarter, Khasla Warriors maintained their domination, despite a fight from Vancouver Lions who even levelled the score at one stage. Sukhbir Singh and Sucha Singh led the raiders pack with their impressive four Raid points each for Vancouver.

However, Khalsa Warriors Raider Yugraj Singh with four successful raids helped his side go 33-24 ahead.

In the third quarter, Vancouver Lions did put up a creditable fight, but Khalsa Warriors with the help of Raiders Manjot Singh (5) and Jasmanpreet Raju (4) ensured their side stayed well ahead. On the other hand, Lions’ raiders Sukhbir Singh (4), Balwan Singh (3) and Gagandeep Singh (3) kept the match close. But Khalsa ensured a sizeable lead at 46-38.

In the final Quarter, Khalsa Warriors dominated once again. Despite Vancouver Lions star stopper Amanvir showing some successful stops his team could not match Khalsa Warriors, who eventually won 60-51.
